Sally Minchella

Director

Sally is a qualified actuary with over 20 years’ experience in the pensions industry working with both trustees and sponsors. Sally’s particular areas of expertise include funding; de-risking; GMP equalisation; scheme re-structuring; offshore arrangements; and inclusion and diversity.

She currently sits on the boards of a multi-billion pound scheme going through buy-out and an open DB scheme developing a long term journey plan, as well as chairing a GMP project group, sitting on a further GMP project group and is working on a number of other schemes across a range of issues, including valuations, discretions and member communications.

Prior to joining LawDeb, Sally was a Senior Director in the Retirement team at Willis Towers Watson, providing advice in relation to schemes ranging from £15m to £2bn. These included agreeing valuations, developing long term funding strategies, scheme design projects, as well as being scheme actuary to several offshore arrangements. She is also a specialist in GMP Equalisation,  involved in developing Willis Towers Watson’s approach to GMP equalisation and conversion across actuarial, data, and administration.

An example of Sally’s work includes leading technical discussions with unions which the client described as “fundamental in getting them over the line”, following an extended period of discourse and disagreement between the unions and a company regarding contentious closure of DB scheme affecting thousands of members.  Sally was shortlisted for 'Most Inspiring Returner' at the Professional Pensions Women in Pensions awards 2018 and nominated as ‘Pensions Woman of the Year’ in 2019,

A Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries with a PMI Certificate in Pension Trusteeship and a BSc (Hons) Mathematics Statistics, Operational Research and Economics from the University of Warwick, Sally enjoys spending time with her 3 young kids and running ultra-marathons in her spare time.
